I Can Academy, LLC is a new and upcoming preschool based upon holistic learning styles for children ages three and four years old. It is dedicated to the academic, social, emotional, and developmental growth of each of its students. Mrs. Kuruvilla has always provided a warm and encouraging atmosphere where each day is filled with fun, developmentally age appropriate activities, lessons and hands on learning. This type of experiential learning allows each of her students to grow to be confident preschoolers who excel academically, and love learning. The natural curiosity that preschoolers have is what drives the curriculum to be so hands on, active, and engaging while also enhancing self-concept, basic moral values, social interaction and independence. The skills taught and learned at I Can Academy have been proven to prepare students for lifelong learning, confidence and success. The first preschool class in 2009 started as Kuruvilla Kids Academy in Houston, Texas. Today those students are 6th and 7th graders who are at the top of their classes, dedicated to their learning, and have strong work ethics across all areas of both academic and extra curricular activities. What makes this curriculum so unique are the experiences from the many field trips the students take during the school year coupled with the fun, engaging lessons in the classroom. This has been proven over the past decade, to be successful and advantageous for all students. Field trips set the program apart from others and further solidify real world developmental skills as well as concepts taught in class. The preschool years are the most amazing times to create and foster positive connections with learning and academia. I Can Academy will continue to provide students with a strong curriculum as well as a positive self-worth allowing students to be happy, confident, and more than prepared to start Kindergarten and beyond.
Meet Our Founder
Jessy Kuruvilla has over 22 years of teaching experience from High School to Preschool. She obtained both her Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Education and Education Administration. She also has four daughters whom she homeschooled until each reached 1st grade. This is crucial to understanding her passion for early years foundations learning (EYFS). The span of her teaching career has included High School, Middle School, Elementary School, and Preschool. All throughout her career teaching many grade levels, she observed, took notes and began questioning what it was that the successful students had that her struggling student's didn't.
Over the course of many years it became very clear that the answer to her question was reading skills. In every situation the recall and retention was the biggest factor in how successful and confident a student was. That is when she began working on reading skills with her students. She would spend hours putting together reading plans for each of her students and by the end of the year it was unbelievable to see the difference in confidence and correlation to better grades. This helped not only in reading class, but in all academic areas. This made total sense because reading is the core of every class. Once her children were born she resigned for some time to raise and teach her four daughters. She began developing a curriculum in which she added reading and writing to the daily schedule and the girls began catching on very quickly. The field trips and content material in class all coincided and Mrs. Kuruvilla began seeing the deep connection to holistic learning and retention of material so she made field trips a weekly part of "class time." What started out as a curriculum and program created for her daughters and her home preschool, carried on into her teaching preschool at two prestigious preschools in Austin, TX. The reading sheets were a huge success and seeing her students excel further proved the worth and value of them. To this day, her students have the advantage of the early reading and writing, have always felt an edge when entering kindergarten or first grade, are humble, kind, loving, hard working, helpful, and go getters. They look at school as a blessing, not to be taken for granted. Mrs. Kuruvilla's culture and background have much to do with this. Her parents were Immigrants who came to the states in the 70's and worked very hard. They were devout Christians who instilled faith, love, and a tremendous work ethic in their children. Church is a very big part of her life as she has always taught Sunday school and believes that children are truly a blessing and are our society's best hope for a brighter future!
Quotes from parents of previous students:
"Mrs. Kuruvilla is above and beyond what I could have ever asked for in a teacher for my son. She is an extremely passionate person who puts in an extrodinary amount of effort and time in to ensure that her classroom is a warm, welcoming space full of various creative and challenging areas for the children to explore and discover. I have honestly never seen a more dedicated and hard working teacher." A. Bares
"We are extremely happy with Mrs. Kuruvilla and her time as Ben's preschool teacher! All that she did, she did through years of experience and lots of love. At first, I thought the homework for our 3 year old would be too much (mainly because my daughter never had homework until much later), but we quickly realized it didn't take but a few minutes with such a positive impact. Ben loved doing his homework (just like his sister). The planning and preparation for the Bears class was evident and we saw Ben grow so much with Jessy. Thank you so much for being one of the best teachers we have had the pleasure of knowing!" K. Avigael
"As a parent, I felt Mrs. Kuruvilla was a phenomenal teacher. She was extremely organized and communicative. She was continuously exposing my son and his classmates to their environment and the natural world around them, be it though field trips or bringing someone into the school to teach, speak and visit with them. With each new unit she filled the classroom to reflect what they were studying. The class was a musical stage, an art gallery, a grocery store, an infirmary, a post office, etc. I don't think I could have ever imagined how much my son would love school." P. Hobeich
"Mrs. Kuruvilla structured the children's day so that they experienced learning as fun and invigorating with enough free time to play and interact with one another, and because of her influence my daughter developed a love of learning and exploring as well as an open and curious mind." B. John
"I feel honored to have known Jessy for several years as my daughter was one of her first students from 2009-2012. Her journey as a preschool teacher began as a proprietor of a home preschool program which was in great demand in our community, but she opted to keep the school small as she had four young children at the time. I elected to bypass private school to enroll our youngest daughter and thank God I did. My daughter (as all the children in the program) was fully engaged, always excited to attend school and excelled exponentially under Jessy's tutelage." K. Black
"Jessy took over her class at a difficult point in the year and quickly established confidence and cohesion in the class. She responded admirably and took both the students and parents in the class and created a family in such a short time. The children loved her and she loved them mainly because at the start of their educational journey they responded to Jessy's warmth and interest in them, as did their parents. Jessy is a talented and committed professional who was an asset to our team. We were truly sad to see her leave, but happy for the new journey ahead that she and her family would take in Dallas." F. B.- Headmistress
"My daughter was blessed to have Jessy as her preschool teacher for three years. She was instrumental in her advance preparation for kindergarten. She laid a solid learning foundation on which Sophia continues to build upon today. She started Kuruvilla Kids Academy in 2009 and turned it into a place where learning took place not only using traditional tools, but by exploring the world through nature, the arts, cooking, exercise, and community service. This created an environment for each child to be well rounded and confident, but it was her knowledge, her passion for her profession, her love for her students and their future that made out time there unforgettable." J. Cormier
"Mrs. Kuruvilla was a great gift in Trajan's life. I could not have asked for a better teacher! She completely turned the class into a positive, wonderful place where all the children loved to be. Even though it has been five years, Trajan still talks about "Mrs. Kuruvilla" and all the field trips they went on. He loved those and he loves Jessy. It was a great beginning to the rest of his school years." A. Koberg
"Mrs. Kuruvilla was like a breath of fresh air! I was extremely happy with her as my daughter's teacher. She was very warm and welcoming, and made the classroom an actual class. Being a private school we had high expectations, and she surpassed them all. The classroom was a vibrant, organized, fun, learning environment for the kids, and we appreciated the communication. Avery thrived in her class and we are thankful we were able to get into her class!" A.H
